A chronology of HELP.
In 2010...
...HELP began to explore the opportunities to expand our service area to include the state of Colorado for a Health & Wellness Center. A team of researchers was organized and set goals to do site visits in Spring 2011.
....HELP ORG INC launched an Equity Research Pilot to compare Equity in the state of Georgia, Florida, and Massachusetts. A team of researchers was organized and set goals to do site visits in Summer 2011.
...HELP co-sponsored teacher training in Atlanta, Ghana, and Tanzania.
...HELP ORG INC began a Cycling Club for youth and young adults.

…HELP ORG INC conducted an assessment of the Wright Dunbar Historic District in Dayton, Ohio to determine the potential of launching a Community Development Division program to include affordable housing and workforce development. Non-profit and private sector collaborations evolved.
…HELP committed staff to the Sapelo Island Cultural and Revitalization Society for the purposes of grants writing, historic preservation via the local county municipalities, and volunteer coordination.
…HELP ORG INC committed staff to the Herndon Home Museum for the purposes of grants writing, historic preservation, and volunteer coordination. An essay contest was created with John F. Kennedy Middle School’s 6th grade class and savings bonds were awarded to the winners.
…HELP partnered with Communities in Schools and the FETE Foundation to facilitate My-story, Not History Lunch & Learn Session during Freedom Fridays at John F. Kennedy Middle School. Also, the FETE Foundation volunteered to create Valentine's Day fruit flower fundraiser items at TRYCOPE with HELP.

...HELP ORG INC continued year-around youth soccer programming during the spring, summer, and fall seasons as well as soccer clinics during out-of-school-time e.g. winter and spring breaks. HELP received support from DEMISE and the Mayor’s Office of Weed and Seed.
… HELP in conjunction with the Youth Institute of Science and Technology, Pearl Academy, McNair Research Program at Georgia State University, and Biofuels Racing Alliance ventured on a sustainable energy program that included biodiesel and rainwater harvesting. HELP hosted a biodiesel processing workshop in Atlanta with expert Jerry Robock. In Ghana West Africa, HELP ORG INC along with Dumpong Biofuels co-hosted a biodiesel processing workshop and constructed a biodiesel processing center at YIST primary school. In a Northwest Atlanta neighborhood during summer 2008, used grease collected from local fast food restaurants was processed by local residents to biodiesel fuel 100% or B100. B100 can be used to power diesel generators and other diesel equipment, machinery, and vehicles. In Africa, palm kernel oil was converted to biodiesel fuel 100% or B100.
…HELP ORG INC adopted HABESHA’s Sustainable Seeds program. Thus, TRYCOPE youth were exposed to interactive learning that combines mathematics, science, and the environment through the design and maintenance of an urban organic farm. The Truly Living Well Urban Organic Farms farming philosophies were in action during the plowing phase and throughout the growing seasons. HELP received support from the FETE Foundation, GA Tech’s AASU, and HOOPS University. TRYCOPE after-school program youth and community residents maintained and ate fresh veggies from the Graham Garden at Magnolia Park.

HELP ORG INC served as volunteer coordinator and fiscal agent for TRYCOPE. HELP implemented a cultural enrichment curriculum, and received support from the Agents of Change Agents of Hope, Atlennium, Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, Atlanta Spirit, BOPSOP, Bright from the Start, DEMISE, FETE Foundation, Ollie Street YMCA, Publix Super Markets Charities, The Neighborhood Fund Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and the Vine City Civic Association Youth Committee.
…HELP launched a youth soccer program and partnered with the Andrew and Walter Young YMCA, Harland Boys & Girls Club, Herndon Homes, Imhotep International Soccer Association, and Visions Unlimited. HELP’s coaches became certified thru the Georgia Youth Soccer Association.
…HELP ORG INC served as fiscal agent for Agents of Change Agents of Hope during their capital campaign at the Georgia Dome utilizing Levy Restaurants' fundraising program.
…HELP staff, DEMISE volunteers, and 13 youth from our youth program attended the National Society of Black Engineers Summer Camping Conference at Auburn University. We toured Tuskegee University, too.
…HELP ORG INC partnered with Kids-R-Fit and TRYCOPE to host Run Through the Vines at Washington Park.
…HELP began a Housing Development Training Pilot in which HELP staff worked alongside urban planners, private sector members, and experts in housing development to purchase and renovate 2 single family homes for affordable housing (1 of the homes was a historic restoration).

…HELP ORG INC facilitated four Community Forums during the year. Our gracious host was the Vine City Terrace Apartments Community Center (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) and John F. Kennedy Middle School Community Center (4th). Georgia State University's Sankofa Society provided youth activities during the forums.
…HELP facilitated the Kids Activity Corner at the Neighborhood Union Health Center Health Fair.
…HELP ORG INC assisted the Vine City Civic Association with conducting research for the nomination of Sunset Avenue in the Historic Vine City neighborhood as a Historic District.

HELP received support from Brundage Enterprise Management, DeLaine Valdez Ferguson, DEMISE, Gordon’s Body Shop, Kids-R-Fit, Publix Super Markets Charities, Reach Them 2 Teach Them Foundation, Sevananda Natural Foods Market, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, The Falcons Fitness Zone, and The Neighborhood Fund Project Grant, Tilman Ward, and Vincente Scott.

…HELP ORG INC was awarded a scholarship for staff to attended The Neighborhood Fund Leadership Institute for Board Development.
…HELP was granted authorization by The Integral Group to salvage landscape foliage from Grady Homes (before demolition) for transplantation in the English Avenue and Vine City communities. Trees Atlanta contributed to the transplanting project by donating transportation materials.
…the Neighborhood Union Health Center located in the Historic Vine City District of Northwest Atlanta was scheduled to close due to under-utilization. HELP became affiliated with Sisters Action Team Women’s Empowerment Network to conduct research to assist in the historic preservation and restoration of the health center. The study resulted in a community wide survey that assessed the needs of the local community. The survey was used as a tool to reflect the community’s needs and their desire to keep the Neighborhood Union Health Center open. The facility has since been renovated to a 21st century state-of-the-art medical facility with a steady volume of clients.
…HELP ORG INC began to work closely with the City of Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit – L, the English Avenue Neighborhood Association, and the Vine City Civic Association to assess the immediate infrastructure (speed breakers by schools) and community involvement needs. HELP committed staff to recruit community residents that resulted in increased community engagement at monthly community meetings. During our door-to-door canvasing of the neighborhood for community participation, locations where tennis shoes hung from the power lines were cataloged and submitted to Bell South, Comcast, and Georgia Power for removal of the shoes.
